The 27-year-old returned to Milan this summer after a six-month loan spell at Olympique de Marseille. Last season, Bennacer split his time between Serie A and Ligue 1, contributing in both campaigns.
Milan were reportedly open to letting him go, largely due to his annual salary of €4 million.
Bennacer joined Milan from Empoli in 2019 and has since made 178 appearances, scoring 8 goals and providing 12 assists. During his time with the Rossoneri, he lifted the Serie A title and the Italian Super Cup.
On the international stage, Bennacer played a key role in Algeria’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations triumph, where he was named Player of the Tournament.
