Ismaila Sarr shines as Palace stun reigning champions Liverpool

Ismaila Sarr and Crystal Palace ended Liverpool’s perfect Premier League start with a 2-1 victory on Saturday. Sarr was on target for the home side in a crucial victory over the reigning champions.

The Senegalese international opened the scoring nine minutes into the game after the Reds’ defense failed to clear a corner kick, as he slotted home from close range. Palace should have scored more goals during the half but failed to consolidate their lead. Sarr was involved in much of the tie with his brilliant direct runs at the Liverpool defense.

Palace scored late through Eddie Nketiah to snatch the win as they moved into second place on 12 points.

Sarr had also scored against Liverpool back in August during the Community Shield win over the same opponent. He missed three matches due to a thigh injury but scored upon his return. The Senegalese attacker has three league goals to his name this season.

Elsewhere, Ghana international Antoine Semenyo scored his fourth league goal of the season with a free kick effort during the 2-2 draw between Leeds United and Bournemouth. Gambian winger Yankuba Minteh was crucial as Brighton came from behind to stun Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge. Minteh assisted Danny Welbeck for the equalizer in the second half.
