Kings Kangwa’s two second half goals gave Israeli Premier League leaders Hapoel Be’er Sheva a valuable 3-1 victory at holders Maccabi Tel Aviv on Sunday evening.
VAR was called into action multiple times in a gripping clash at the top of the table but it was leaders Hapoel who emerged victorious. With the match tied at 1-1 close to the hour mark, Kangwa provided an instant response after Sayd Abu Farhi leveled the match from the penalty spot.
The Zambian could have had a hat-trick. His apparent goal at the end of the first half was ruled out by VAR after Eliel Peretz previously gave the visitors the lead close to the half hour mark. And after winning the ball in midfield and only having the keeper to beat, the playmaker failed to capitalize on an excellent opportunity.
But the league’s reigning Foreign Player of the Year came back for more and kept his composure. A precision counter-attack created plenty of space for Kangwa to run at the edge of the penalty area in the 57th minute and he easily danced around a defender before producing a calm finish.
In stoppage time following a Maccabi corner kick, Kangwa was played in on goal again and used his pace to pull away from the defense before making no mistake this time around.
