‘It could have ended with a big win, but this is football’ – El Shahat on Al Ahly draw

Al Ahly winger Hussein El Shahat has urged fans to continue supporting the team following their thrilling 4-4 draw with FC Porto in the final group-stage match of the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Despite the high-scoring encounter earlier this morning, both teams were eliminated from the tournament. Al Ahly exited after finishing fourth in the group on goal difference behind Porto, who also failed to advance.

Speaking to Al Ahly’s official website, El Shahat said: “It could have ended with a big win for us against Porto, but this is football, and we have to accept that. We had hoped to bring joy to our fans, especially those who were present at the Porto match and filled the stadium. That is something that makes us proud.”

“Every match has its own circumstances. The team played a great game against Inter Miami, and we could have scored and won if we had capitalized on our chances.”

He concluded his post-match reaction with a message for the Al Ahly fans: “I ask them to continue standing by the team, and I assure them that the best is yet to come.”
