Veteran Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane has expressed joy over his return from a long term injury.
The 35-year-old suffered an Achilles tendon injury during the AFCON qualifier against Congo in October last year, keeping him out of action for close to seven months.
Zwane recently made a return when the Brazilians secured a 3-0 win against Richards Bay FC in the Betway Premiership before showing up in Sundowns’ 1-1 draw against Al Ahly in Egypt, which booked them a spot in this year’s CAF Champions League Final.
He said: “It feels good [to be back] because it’s the moment that I have been working hard to be part of the team,” Zwane told Sundowns media. “For me to be part of the team makes me happy, and I can see my brothers are also happy for me.
“The excitement is there, and you can see how we are playing; we are doing well and winning games. The brotherhood and team spirit are more important.
Sundowns will take on Stellenbosch in a Betway Premiership match at Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium on Sunday. A win for Masandawana will secure them an eighth straight league title.
Zwane said about the game: “Honestly, I am expecting a tough game because they were playing in the Confederation Cup and doing well,” he said regarding the fixture.
“But even with us, we have been doing well. We have been scoring more goals and creating more chances. So it’s going to be an exciting game to watch.” He added.
