Nigeria defender Felix Agu has revealed why he ditched the Germany national team to play for the Super Eagles.

The former Germany U-21 full-back played a role in Werder Bremen’s 8th place finish in the just-concluded Bundesliga season, notching home three goals from 21 appearances for Ole Werner's side.

Agu has been invited to Nigeria's Unity Cup squad by head coach, Eric Chelle after being cleared to play for the Super Eagles. The 25-year-old could make his first appearance for the three-time AFCON winners against Ghana in the Unity Cup opener at the GTech Stadium on Wednesday May 28.

Felix Agu revealed how special it feels to represent the Super Eagles.

“As I said before, it's nice to represent the biggest African country. To connect more to my roots and to be able to play with such good players.

“It's an honour to just represent such a big, big country. I see the quality of players we have here in this in this team, and what we can can achieve, so it was my plan to be able to contribute and represent my country,” the former VfL Osnabrück defender told Soccernet.

The Super Eagles will use the game as a dress rehearsal for their upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Rwanda in September.

The Green and White lads currently sit fourth in the qualifying group on seven points from six games. They are one point behind Benin and Rwanda with leaders, South Africa on 13 points.
