Liverpool fans have heaved a sigh of relief following the contract extension of Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah for two-years.
Salah’s previous contract was set to expire in the summer and speculations arose that he would not stay with the Reds as well as those linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia.
The 32-year-old expressed delight in staying at Liverpool for another two more years.
“Of course I’m very excited – we have a great team now,” said Salah.
“Before we also had a great team. But I signed because I think we have a chance to win other trophies and enjoy my football. I have played eight years here, hopefully it’s going to be 10. I’m enjoying my life here, enjoying my football. I have had the best years of my career here.” Mo Salah
Club manager, Arne Slot spoke about Mohamed Salah’s contract extension and how important the former Chelsea player has been for the club.
“Hopefully he [Mohamed Salah] can show on Sunday again how important he has been for a whole season to us. I think for the fans it is [ a relief], I don’t think it’s a surprise to you that I know a bit better how his contract situation went over the course of the whole season. Maybe for the fans it’s a pleasant surprise, I knew it a bit longer that of course things were heading in the right direction and I think also it’s a big compliment to all.
Mo Salah who is such a great player, as a free player can go to any club in the world probably if he wants to but he stayed in our club and that’s why it’s a compliment for everyone.” Arne Slot said in a pre-match press conference.
Salah will now have the chance to add to his 243 goals and 109 assists for Liverpool in 393 appearances. Salah has scored 32 goals in all competitions this season, including 27 in the Premier League as the Reds chase a 20th top-flight title. Liverpool are 11 points clear of second-placed Arsenal with seven games remaining.
