Former Kaizer Chiefs shot-stopper Itumeleng Khune has offered his perspective on whether Bruce Bvuma should be the starting goalkeeper for the crucial Nedbank Cup final.

In a highly anticipated Soweto Derby, Amakhosi will lock horns with rivals Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup final, with Amakhosi eager to end their long wait for silverware.

The game will be staged in Durban at the Moses Mabhida Stadium this afternoon (Saturday, May, 10) kick-off at 3pm (CAT).

Of Chiefs' goalkeeping trio – Bvuma, Fiacre Ntwari, and Brandon Petersen – Bvuma has played most of the games this season. He has featured in 19 Betway Premiership games, keeping just six clean sheets and conceding 21 goals. Across the Carling Knockout and Nedbank Cup, Bvuma has made five appearances, conceding six goals.

In contrast, Ntwari started the season, featuring in the first seven matches, where he conceded 11 goals and kept one clean sheet. On the other hand, Petersen played three games, letting in five goals.

However, a worrying trend for Chiefs is Bvuma's recent form, which has seen him concede nine goals in his last seven appearances, coinciding with the team's winless league run.

Ahead of the Nedbank Cup final, Chiefs' Bafana Bafana legend Khune cautioned Nasreddine Nabi against instability in the goalkeeping selection.

“In goal, there won’t be many changes because you know that’s the position you can’t tamper with,” Khune said. “Once you choose your number one [goalkeeper], he doesn’t have to play one or two games and be out of action. And then he has to come back again after six or seven games. That position, you can’t tamper with.

“I will stick with Bruce to continue where he has left off. As a goalkeeper, the more games you play, the more confident you get. So, this on-and-off rotation [as a goalkeeper] you won’t be able to perform.”
