Iwobi equals Premier League appearance record for Nigerian players

Alex Iwobi has officially drawn level with Shola Ameobi as the joint-highest Nigerian appearance maker in the history of the English Premier League.

The 29-year-old, who started for Fulham in their 1-3 defeat to Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Friday, equaled Shola Ameobi’s record of 298 matches.

His journey as a professional began with Arsenal, where he rose through the academy ranks before making his senior debut. After a successful spell with the Gunners he moved to Everton, where he continued to be a consistent presence in the top flight. His current tenure with Fulham has seen him maintain his status as a key player, culminating in this remarkable achievement.

Behind Iwobi and Ameobi in the all-time list for Nigerians are Nwankwo Kanu (273), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and John Mikel Obi (249).
