Senegal international Nicolas Jackson has admitted he went through tough moments and anxiety before he finally sealed a transfer switch from Premier League side Chelsea to Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich,
Having been released by Chelsea to go and sign for Bayern, the deal was thrown into serious doubt upon his arrival at Munich airport, as an injury to Liam Delap prompted the Blues to reconsider sending him out on loan.
Despite Chelsea’s call that they return to London, Jackson and his agent made it clear how much he wanted the move to happen, Chelsea ultimately agreed to let him join the German champions.
“They were tough moments, but I was very confident I’d get to stay here because this is where I wanted to come. I’d already spoken with the coach and the club bosses. I’m pleased to be here,” Jackson said during his official presentation at a press conference on Friday.
“In football, there can be a time when you want a change. I spoke to (sporting director) Max Eberl and the coach and they really wanted me to be here and they loved me. And as a player, you want to be there where people want you to be.”
On finally signing for Bayern, Jackson said: “I’m really happy to be here and train with the team. I know a few players and can hardly wait for the games to start. I’m obviously a number 9, but can also play as a second striker. I just want to help the team and play for the coach and the club.
“I don’t know the difference yet (between the Bundesliga and Premier League) because I haven’t played here yet. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll know the difference. I’ve played in Spain and England, and maybe here for the first time tomorrow.”
