Former Wydad Casablanca defender Jamal Harkass made an instant impact on the attacking end in his Saudi Pro League debut with a late equalizer as Damac FC drew 1-1 with Al-Hazem on Thursday. Harkass headed in from a corner kick only moments after Hazem striker Omar Al Somah failed to convert a penalty kick to put the game away.

Deep into second half stoppage time, the Morocco national team center back gave his team a point in the opening match from the 2025-26 Saudi Pro League campaign. The goal completed a stellar debut for Harkass whose central defensive partnership with former Algeria national team defender Abdelkader Bedrane showed plenty of promise.
Al-Hazem, newly promoted to the top flight, showed their capabilities with a strong performance that was rewarded with a penalty kick conversion from Fabío Martins close to the hour mark.
Oddly, Martins was still on the pitch when substitute Al Somah, who played with Harkass and Wydad at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, stepped up to put the match away in second half stoppage time but sent his spot kick into orbit. Also of note, South Africa national team winger Elias Mokwana made his debut for Hazem when he came on alongside Al Somah.
The stage was set for Damac to level the match and Harkass’ accurate header found the top corner to give the hosts a point from their opener. Damac and Harkass next face another newly promoted side, Neom SC, after the international break on September 14.
