Jamie Webber scores first USL Championship goal in Tulsa victory

Former Sekhukhune United and SuperSport United midfielder Jamie Webber arrived at USL Championship side FC Tulsa with plenty of fanfare as well as a sizeable transfer fee by the standards of the American second tier. Webber contributed on Saturday evening in a thrilling 4-3 victory against Las Vegas Lights with his first league goal for Tulsa.

Credit must be given to Harvey St. Clair for a perfect cross on the goal that made it 2-0 in favor of Tulsa inside 16 minutes. Webber arrived at the far post to nod in but the job was far from done for the hosts at ONEOK Field.

Las Vegas responded before halftime with two goals of their own, leveling the match in first half stoppage time with Shawn Smart’s goal. The visitors then took the lead shortly after Webber and two of his teammates were substituted at the hour mark.

But a dramatic finish saw Tulsa equalize through Tiago Calheira in the 76th minute before an own goal in stoppage time moved Tulsa’s league unbeaten streak to seven games. They are currently third on the Western Conference table and well within striking distance of conference leaders San Antonio FC.

Webber has two goals and an assist through eleven games for Tulsa since joining. The former Bafana Bafana player and Tulsa return to action on Wednesday with another home game against Monterey Bay FC.
