Tarek Jarraya takes over at US Monastir after JS Kabylie’s defeat

Tunisian side US Monastir has named Tarek Jarraya as their new coach after a heavy CAF Champions League second qualifying round defeat at the hands of JS Kabylie.

The Algerian side scored three unanswered goals in the second half to take a 3-0 lead in Sfax, leaving Monastir with an uphill task in the return leg.

Monastir opted to part ways with Montassar Louhichi after the defeat and named the 45-year-old Jarraya as their new head coach.

In an official statement, the club confirmed the news: “Tarek Jarraya will begin his duties this Sunday by leading his first training session with the team.”

The Tunisian coach is no stranger to the local football scene, as he managed Olympique Beja in 2023. He has also coached Al Ahly Tripoli and Safa FC of Lebanon. Jarraya’s first assignment will be an away trip to Club Africain in a Tunisian Ligue 1 week 10 match on Tuesday, October 21. He will also have a tough task ahead in the Champions League when his charges face Kabylie in the coming weekend.

Monastir are fourth in the standings with 17 points after four wins and five draws.
