Jess Thorup’s full coaching staff set to arrive in Cairo ahead of Al Ahly debut

Al Ahly TV has revealed details about the backroom team that will accompany new Danish head coach Jess Thorup, as well as their expected arrival dates in Cairo, as the Egyptian giants prepare for a crucial new phase under their recently appointed manager.

Al Ahly officially announced the appointment of Jess Thorup last week on a two-and-a-half-year contract, replacing José Riveiro, whose tenure ended due to poor results. Former player Emad El-Nahhas had been serving as interim coach before Thorup’s arrival.

According to Ahmed Shobeir, host of the club’s main TV program, four members of Thorup’s coaching staff are scheduled to arrive in Egypt on Tuesday, with the fifth member expected on Wednesday or Thursday.

Thorup will be joined by a team that includes two assistant coaches, a goalkeeping coach, a performance analyst, and a fitness coach — a structure the Danish manager confirmed during his unveiling press conference last Friday.

Shobeir revealed that the incoming assistants are Amri Zabex and Johnny Molby, who will both work alongside Thorup in leading the team. The goalkeeping coach, Kaj Stefansen, and the fitness coach are also due to arrive on Tuesday, while the performance analyst will follow later in the week.

In the meantime, Adel Mostafa will lead Tuesday’s training session under the supervision of Thorup, who will hold meetings with the medical, fitness, analysis, and goalkeeping departments to discuss the players’ conditions.

Thorup is likely to take full charge of Wednesday’s training session, before Al Ahly departs on Thursday to face Aigle Noir of Burundi in CAF Champions League.

Finally, Shobeir confirmed that Al Ahly will honor Emad El-Nahhas on Tuesday for his service as interim manager before he travels to Iraq to begin his new role with Al-Zawraa SC.
