Uganda Premier League side Calvary FC has officially confirmed the departure of head coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera, bringing an abrupt end to his tenure with the newly promoted club.
The club announced the decision through a statement released across its official social media platforms.
“The club has mutually agreed to part ways with Head Coach Jimmy Kintu Mwera,” the statement read in part.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to Coach Kintu for his contributions during his tenure and wish him success in his future endeavours,” it added.
While the club described the separation as mutual, inside sources reveal that Kintu had earlier laid down his tools following growing frustrations over unpaid salaries.
Reports indicate that both the coach and the playing staff have gone four months without pay, a situation that has created an increasingly strained working environment for the team in their debut season in the top flight.
On the pitch, Calvary has endured a difficult start to life in the Uganda Premier League, losing four of their opening five matches and drawing once.
The club will be hoping to bounce back when they face UPDF FC on Wednesday, November 19.
Kintu’s exit makes him the second coach to leave his role this season, following Hussein Mbalangu’s recent dismissal from NEC Football Club.
