Former Nigerian Super Eagles star and newly appointed Montpellier Féminines head coach, John Utaka, has put his name forward for the top job with the Nigerian national team should the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) come calling.
Utaka, who was recently named head coach of the French Division 1 Féminine side, had previously applied for the Flying Eagles coaching role but lost out to Aliyu Zubairu.
Speaking to Brila FM after his appointment in France, the former Portsmouth forward declared his readiness to lead the Super Eagles, expressing that it would be “an honor.”
“If the NFF calls me, I’ll be glad to come. The job is to coach the players to the maximum.”
Utaka is a household name in Nigerian football, has 48 caps for Nigeria and scored six goals. He was an integral part of the squad that secured a third-place finish at the 2006 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia and proudly represented Nigeria at the 2002 and 2010 FIFA World Cups.
