Leicester City ended a twelve-match winless streak on Saturday, overcoming last placed Southampton by a 2-0 score in an English Premier League duel between two teams doomed to relegation at the conclusion of the campaign.
Ghana national team forward Jordan Ayew clinched victory just before halftime with his powerful strike, giving Leicester a two-goal lead against hapless Southampton. Ayew’s attempt at a free kick was blocked by the Saints wall but the veteran followed up to power in a low strike through the crowd.
Earlier in the first half, Leicester took the lead in the 17th minute through a skilled team movement down the left wing. Morocco national team playmaker Bilal El Khannouss was sent in down the flank and his cross was perfect for Jamie Vardy, who made no mistake with his finish inside the penalty area.
When the full time whistle arrived, it signaled Leicester’s first victory since January 26 when they stunned Tottenham 2-1 away from home. The Fxoes remain in 19th place on 21 points from 35 matches while Southampton remain in contention to tie Derby County’s worst-ever Premier League season, when the Rams collected only 11 points.
