Former Nigeria national team defender Jordan Torunarigha has officially joined Bundesliga club Hamburg after his signing was announced on Wednesday by the newly promoted side.
After severing ties with Belgian Pro League outfit KAA Gent, Torunarigha joined the former European champions on a free transfer. Speaking on the club’s official website, Torunarigha said he is looking forward to meeting his new teammates and the coaching staff.
“I can hardly wait to get to know my teammates, the coaching staff, the staff, the fans, and the city, and to use all my strengths and experience to help us have a successful season together and achieve our goals.”
The Nigerian is making a return to the country of his birth after a previous stint with Hertha Berlin. Torunarigha was on the books of Hertha Berlin for five years before switching over to Gent, where he made over 100 league appearances over three-and-a-half seasons with the club.
Hamburg were promoted to the Bundesliga last season after finishing as runners-up in the Bundesliga 2.
