Udinese FC’s Zimbabwe star Jordan Zemura has made an emotional reaction to his failure to make the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) squad due to an injury.
The Italy-based Warriors defender picked the injury while playing for his club against Genoa A in an Italian Serie A contest on Monday.
It was thus hardly surprising that the name of the left-back was missing when Zimbabwe coach Marian Mario’ Marinica named the final squad of Thursday.
The Udinese player took to his Instagram account to vent his’ frustrations after missing out on the AFCON call-up.
“You work so hard to achieve the small wins in your career,” the 26-year-old wrote.
“You give everything, you work non-stop. You fight till you can’t fight no more just to represent your father’s fields. You work to inspire the youth; the ones after you, that’s all it ever was.
“Now at the final hurdle, I have fallen. My body has given up. I guess that’s the cost. The price you pay. However, I will be back. I will defend these colours again. I will lead this team again.”
Zemura wished the Warriors well, saying he will be cheering on them in Morocco. He will miss the tournament alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Marshall Munetsi.
The Warriors will compete at the AFCON finals in Group B alongside South Africa, Angola and Egypt.’
