Zamalek's head coach, Jose Gomes, expressed his satisfaction with his team's attacking mentality following their 2-0 victory over Black Bulls of Mozambique in the opening match of the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

Speaking in the post-match press conference, Gomes highlighted the offensive efforts of his players but also noted areas for improvement, particularly in defense.

"I was pleased with the attacking mentality of the players today," said Gomes. "However, I didn't like our defensive transitions when we lost possession in the second half. The opponent had an opportunity to score after a slip-up from Hossam Abdel-Meguid."

Gomes acknowledged the strength of the opposing team, noting that Black Bulls were a "very strong and organized" side. "We created several chances and managed to win with two goals," he added.

The Portuguese coach also provided an update on Hamza El-Metlouthi, who suffered a strong knock during the match. "Hamza sustained a serious injury and will undergo a medical check-up. Such injuries take time to heal, and he will need a while to return to full fitness."

Regarding squad rotation, Gomes stressed the importance of utilizing all available players in upcoming matches. "It's crucial to use every player in the squad. We shouldn’t focus solely on new signings, as we have important matches ahead before the winter transfer window," he explained.

Gomes further discussed the importance of creating chances, saying, "It’s essential not to waste opportunities, but it's positive that we're creating so many. If we continue like this, we’ll see significant improvement."

On the inclusion of Mahmoud El-Wench in the squad for the match, Gomes remarked, "Mahmoud deserves to be in the squad, as he’s been training well. We planned for him to participate in a friendly match first, as these games help in preparing the substitutes and evaluating young players."

Reflecting on recent struggles, Gomes acknowledged several issues within the team, including injuries to key players like Zizo and the incidents involving Donga and Shalaby. "However, the absence of some players is no excuse for our previous defeat. We lost because we didn’t start the game the same way we played today. We need to consistently show our spirit in every match."

Gomes also praised Michalak's performance, noting that he made good movements despite not scoring. "Michalak played in his position and performed well. If the ball had reached him, he would have had a clear chance on goal. I’m satisfied with his display, and his speed will be crucial against teams that rely on high defensive lines."

Looking ahead, Gomes recognized the challenge of playing against Egyptian club Al-Masry, acknowledging their strength in the group. "It’s positive to have Al-Masry in our group, as we’ll play both matches in Egypt, but they’re a strong competitor."

He also warned that the upcoming match against Enyimba will not be easy. "Enyimba is a strong and aggressive team, and we’ll prepare our players to win every match," Gomes said.

Concluding, he mentioned that Omar Farag needs more time to prove himself. "Omar is working hard with the team, and he needs time to show what he’s capable of."

Zamalek secured their first three points in the group with this victory, which was a crucial start to their CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
