Amidst swirling rumours about his future, outgoing Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has clarified why he cannot yet disclose his next club.

In a fitting farewell on Tuesday night at Orlando Stadium, Riveiro's final match as Pirates head coach concluded with a decisive 3-0 victory over Golden Arrows in the league.

The goals from Tshegofatso Mabasa, Bandile Shandu, and Kabelo Dlamini ensured a perfect send-off, while also maintaining a slim mathematical chance for Pirates to win the league. However, Mamelodi Sundowns are on the verge of securing the title with just a point needed from their final two games.

Despite an earlier announcement of Riveiro's departure at the end of his contract, the club revealed on Monday that he requested an early release after signing with a new team, a decision Pirates chairperson Irvin Khoza stated was communicated after the Nedbank Cup final due to the importance of upcoming fixtures.

While reports strongly suggest a move to Al Ahly, Riveiro explained that he is bound by confidentiality and therefore cannot disclose his next club.

“I cannot tell you if it is not announced, I cannot tell you. I have this confidentiality thing. So it is not my role, my responsibility to announce, but I think it is going to be very soon,” he said.

“I think that everybody will be understanding and hopefully happy for me and wishing me all the best.”
