Joseph Samb set for lengthy layoff with horrible fracture

Senegal defender Joseph Layousse Samb has been rocked by an injury that is expected to side line him for several weeks.

The Stade Lavallois left-back was forced off early during the Maine derby against Le Mans FC (1-1) on Saturday, February 7, with the Senegalese defender suffering a serious injury to his right foot.

The former Teungueth player was forced to leave the field with just 21 minute played after injuring himself on a misstep.

Coach Olivier Frapolli distraught about the injury

This worrying exit was confirmed moments later by images of the player leaving the Stade Marie-Marvingt on crutches.

Medical examinations carried out immediately revealed a “fracture of the fourth metatarsal,” without displacement, according to information from Ouest France.

Speaking to the press, Laval coach Olivier Frapolli addressed his player’s injury: “These are the ups and downs of a season. But obviously, it doesn’t help us. We already have several players in the treatment room and we’re still waiting for a new signing to be registered,” he explained.

A regular starter since his arrival last summer, Joseph Layousse Samb had gradually established himself as a key player on the left side of Laval’s defense where he has played 13 games with two goals in the current French Ligue 2 campaign.

He is capped six times by the Senegal national team.
