Joy Omewa hat-trick leads Fortuna Hjorring to victory

Nigerian forward Joy Omewa netted a hat-trick on Saturday, leading Danish champions Fortuna Hjorring to a dominant 6-1 victory over Odense Q at Nature Energy Park in Odense on Saturday.

Anastasia Pobegaylo broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 16th minute, but Ajla Habibovic equalised for Odense Q in the 36th minute for Odense Q, sending the teams into a stalemate going into the halftime locked at 1-1.


Omewa who received a yellow card in the 35th minute, made her mark in the second half, as she restored her sides lead by netting her first goal of the match in the 62nd minute. The former Confluence Queens extended Fortuna Hjorring's lead to 3-1 in the 68th minute, putting them in a comfortable position.


She sealed her hat trick in the 78th minute, making the scoreline 4-1 before Ashle Riefner and Risako Watanabe completed the rout with two more goals. The treble increased the Omewa’s goal tally in the league to 22 from 23 games with four assists.


Fortuna Hjorring, who sealed the league title in Denmark's Elitedivisionen Women Championship log with 51 points after 23 games, are now 12 points ahead of Nordsjælland with a match to end the season.


They will conclude their campaign against Nordsjælland on June 14 at the Nord Enegi Arena, Hjorring, when the league title will be presented to the champions.
