Joy Omewa wins Danish Women’s League Player of the Season

Nigerian international Joy Omewa has capped off an incredible 2024/25 season by being named the Danish Women’s League Player of the Season.

The prolific forward, who stars for Fortuna Hjørring, received a brand-new Mercedes-Benz as part of her well-deserved accolade. Omewa was given the award on Friday at Fortuna Hjørring training pitch as she was surrounded by her teammates.

The awardee of the kvindeliga player of the season is voted by the players in the Women’s League. The award is then given out by the Players Association and presented by Spillerforeningen and Hessel HiRE.

Speaking after the reception of her award the 22 year old forward filled with excitement expressed her appreciation for her teammates as they play the vital role in her milestone achievement.

“I just want to let you know that this won’t be possible without any of you, I am so grateful to you guys. Thank you for all the assist and all the help you’ve helped me this season it is all thanks to you guys, thank you so much”

Meanwhile, Fortuna Hjørring’s head coach Lene Terp praised her star forward, saying, anything would be lucky to have the Nigerian. “Joy is sharp and clever—her movement and decision-making set her apart. She’s a striker any team would be lucky to have.”

Omewa played an instrumental role in leading Fortuna Hjørring to a domestic double, winning both the Danish Championship and the Cup. The forward was on top form as she finished the season as the league’s top scorer, netting 22 goals and providing 4 assists in 23 matches.
