German midfielder Julian Weigl revealed that his former Gabonese teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the reason he first became familiar with Al Qadsiah, his new club in Saudi Arabia.

Weigl joined Al Qadsiah this summer from Borussia Mönchengladbach, and speaking to the Saudi Pro League website, he said:
“I started following Al Qadsiah after my former Borussia Dortmund teammate Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined the club. I know the team well and have seen the quality of the players. I am very excited to begin this new journey, and I promise to give my all to make the fans proud and raise the name of Al Qadsiah.”

Aubameyang, who spent just one season at the Saudi club, left during the recent transfer window and joined Olympique de Marseille in France. He had a strong season with Al Qadsiah, scoring 21 goals and providing 3 assists in 36 matches across all competitions.

Weigl began his first team career at 1860 Munich before moving to Borussia Dortmund. He later played for Benfica in Portugal and Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany before moving to Saudi Arabia.

The midfielder’s honors include winning the DFB-Pokal and the German Super Cup with Dortmund, as well as lifting the Portuguese league title with Benfica.
