The arrival of Mette and Kimani comes just a week after Charles Okere resigned as the coach of the club. Okere was forced to resign by the club’s top management following a series of poor results in the top-flight.

“From Bordeaux to Nairobi, via Brazzaville, Djibouti City, and Kigali. Bienvenue à Tusker FC, Monsieur Julien,” the club’s confirmation of the French gaffer read.

Meanwhile, on signing Kimani, the club said: “A former Kenyan international, a current Harambee Stars assistant coach, and now, ONE OF US. Welcome to Ruaraka, Modo.”

Mette has coached Djibouti national team

Mette, a UEFA Pro license holder, began his coaching career around 2006, focusing on youth development in France before shifting to senior roles abroad in Africa.

He guided Jeunesse Villenavaise, Blanquefort, and Libourne-Saint-Seurin as part of his formative years in youth coaching in his native France. In 2016, he took up his first overseas role by joining Tongo FC in Gabon for a year.

He later joined AS Otôho in Congo-Brazzaville as Sporting Director, where he won two league titles after transitioning to the head coach role.

Metti  handled the Djibouti national team and Rwandese giants, Rayon Sports, in 2024. The two will mark their league debuts as the Brewers visit Shabana.

Julien Mette Takes Charge at Tusker FC

Tusker FC confirmed the appointment of Julien Mette through an official club statement, warmly welcoming the UEFA Pro License holder to Ruaraka.

“From Bordeaux to Nairobi, via Brazzaville, Djibouti City, and Kigali. Bienvenue à Tusker FC, Monsieur Julien,” the club posted while unveiling the French tactician.

Mette arrives with vast international experience, particularly across Africa, and is expected to bring tactical discipline and a fresh football philosophy to the Kenyan giants. His immediate task will be guiding Tusker FC back to winning ways as they push for consistency in the FKF Premier League.

The timing of his arrival is crucial, as the Brewers prepare for a tough away fixture against Shabana FC at Gusii Stadium — a venue known for its intense atmosphere.

Anthony Kimani Joins as Assistant Coach

Alongside Julien Mette, Tusker FC confirmed the appointment of Anthony Kimani as assistant coach. Kimani, a former Kenyan international and current Harambee Stars assistant coach, brings local experience and deep knowledge of Kenyan football.

The club shared an enthusiastic message regarding Kimani’s appointment:

“A former Kenyan international, a current Harambee Stars assistant coach, and now, ONE OF US. Welcome to Ruaraka, Modo.”

Kimani’s presence is expected to bridge the gap between Mette’s international tactical expertise and the local football landscape. His understanding of the FKF Premier League and Kenyan players could prove vital in ensuring a smooth transition.

Coaching Change After Charles Okere Exit

The appointments come shortly after Charles Okere stepped down from his role. Reports indicate that the resignation followed pressure from the club’s management due to a run of poor results.

Tusker FC, one of the most successful clubs in Kenya, have high standards and strong ambitions. Management acted swiftly to stabilize the team’s performance by bringing in experienced leadership ahead of crucial league fixtures.
