Guiagon, who has firmly established himself as one of the best attackers in the league, was on the scoresheet for Charleroi but could not lift his club to victory over 10-man Cercle Brugge. His Ivorian compatriot Oumar Diakité extended Cercle’s lead to 3-1 before halftime before getting sent off in first half stoppage time.
Guiagon cut the lead down to 2-3 just before the hour mark but the hosts could not complete a comeback, losing 3-4 when the full time whistle arrived. The Ivorian now has 8 goals and 2 assists in 21 league matches while Saturday’s goal marked a third goal for Diakité this season on loan from Stade Reims.
Yira Sor helped KRC Genk continue their strong form by opening the scoring in somewhat controversial circumstances on Sunday. After getting involved with a collision with an Anderlecht defender, the 2019 U-20 World Cup participant with Nigeria showed his pace to get behind on the left wing and finish for his third goal from nineteen league matches.

After a poor start to the season, Genk are now in 8th place on the 16-team table. They will also participate in the UEFA Europa League knockout stages with a Round of 32 duel on the horizon against Croatia’s Dinamo Zagreb. The first leg will be in Croatia on February 19 and Sor has a goal and an assist from nine Europa League matches.
Also of note was the performance of Moroccan wing back Zakaria El Ouahdi, who was voted Genk’s Man of the Match after continuing his excellent form on the right flank. The 2024 Summer Olympics bronze medalist has 5 goals and 3 assists in 26 matches this season.

Finally, rising Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie continued an up-and-down first season in European club football on Sunday. On loan at RAAL La Louvière from Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsia, the 19-year-old scored his fourth goal of the season as the relegation battlers fell 1-2 to league leaders Union Saint-Gilloise.
Afriyie’s opportunistic 5th minute strike was not enough for the visitors, conceded a devastating equalizer just before halftime after an excellent performance in the first half. Guilherme Smith’s late goal secured victory to help Saint-Gilloise avoid dropping points in their title chase.
