Justin Madugu confident of improvement for Nigeria ahead of WAFCON

Despite securing a convincing 3-1 victory over Ghana's Black Queens in a friendly match held in Casablanca on Sunday, Nigeria women's national team manager Justin Madugu believes the Super Falcons still have room for improvement ahead of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Madugu emphasized the importance of team cohesion and ongoing development as they prepare for their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) opener against Tunisia on Sunday.
Speaking ahead of the 2024 WAFCON the gaffer added that the friendly help the access their plays as hr praised the players’ determination and team spirit, describing the performance as part of the larger “Mission X” objective.
“The match gave us the opportunity of having the full squad together to really assess our strength as a team, and build on team cohesion, coordination and on various combinations.
"It will always be work in progress, but we are very focused on our realisable and achievable target of Mission X. The girls are ready and are showing real hunger for victory and team spirit is high. We are looking forward to our first match on Sunday against Tunisia.”
Goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo, Asisat Oshoala, and Rasheedat Ajibade sealed the win against Ghana. The victory adds to Madugu’s impressive record, having led the team to key wins against Ethiopia, Cape Verde, Algeria, Cameroon, and a draw against Portugal.
The Super Falcons have been drawn into Group B alongside Tunisia, Botswana, and Algeria. Their campaign will kick off against Tunisia on July 6th, followed by matches against Botswana and Algeria.
In 2022 WAFCON Nigeria reached the semi-finals, where they were defeated by eventual champions Morocco in a penalty shootout. And finished fourth after losing the third-place play-off to Zambia.
