Justine Madugu confirms new contract to stay in charge of Nigeria

Head coach of Nigeria women’s senior national team Justine Madugu has confirmed his new contract with the Super Falcons which keeps him in charge until 2027.

Report of madugu’s new contract by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) had been reported for weeks now, but had not been confirmed by either parties.

The 2025 Ballon d’or nominee for best female coach of the year confirmed his appointment after the 10 time African women champions drew 1-1 in their world one against the Amazons of Benin Republic in the second leg of the final round of 2026 Women’s African Cup of Nation (WAFCON) qualifying at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta, Ogun State on Tuesday.

Speaking to members of the press after the match, Madugu gave an insight to his new contract and how long it runs.

“Well, just to clarify issues, the NFF has offered me a two-year contract. With immediate effect from 1st October this year and to terminate by October 2027.”

The 61 year old has been part of the coaching staff of the Nigeria women’s team from 2012, and as an assistant he worked with coaches like, Edwin Oko, Christopher Danjuma, Florence Omagbemi, Thomas Dennerby and Randy Waldrum who he took over the helm of affairs from.

Madugu on his first outing as head coach with the Super Falcons won the 2025 WAFCON in Morroco, and was also nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’or nominee for best female coach of the year, as well as the Africa female coach of the year.
