The 19-year-old joins the club on a free transfer from Cape Town Spurs after being declared a free agent by the Premier Soccer League Dispute Resolution Chamber (PSL DRC) earlier on Tuesday.
The ruling came after CT Spurs were relegated to the amateur-status ABC Motsepe League, which nullified his previous contract.
Baartman is the ninth new player to join Amakhosi this season, following his former Cape Town Spurs captain, Asanele Velebayi. The list of new acquisitions also includes Etiosa Ighodaro, Ethan Chislett, Nkanyiso Shinga, Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane, Paseka Mako, and Siphesihle Ndlovu.
The club confirmed Baartman’s arrival just ahead of their Betway Premiership match against Richards Bay FC.
“Following this morning’s announcement of the acquisition of Etiosa Ighodaro, Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to confirm the signing of another forward, Luke Baartman, making him the Club’s ninth signing of the 2025/26 season,” reads the club statement.
“The 19-year-old junior international joins Amakhosi from Cape Town Spurs, where he played in the Motsepe Foundation League last season. He has also represented South Africa at the junior level.”
Meanwhile, the Amakhosi Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr added: “We’re thrilled to welcome Luke to our team. He is an exciting young talent that we’ve been monitoring for the past few seasons, both at Club level, in the Bayhill Cup – where he was voted player of the tournament – and the U-17 national team that played at AFCON.
“We believe he will bring valuable versatility, playing both as a centre-forward and a winger. We look forward to seeing him in action soon.”
