Kaizer Chiefs announce signing of Lebohang Maboe

Kaizer Chiefs have officially announced the signing of former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Lebohang Maboe, marking their tenth acquisition of the season.

The 30-year-old, who spent the latter part of the 2024/25 season on loan at SuperSport United, returns to his boyhood club after a successful spell with the Tshwane side. Maboe was instrumental in SuperSport’s fight against relegation, making 16 appearances and contributing a goal and two assists.

Although his loan club, now known as Siwelele FC, was keen to keep him, Maboe was reportedly eager to return to Naturena. The versatile midfielder underwent a medical on Tuesday morning before the deal was finalised.

Maboe’s signing follows the departures of captain Yusuf Maart and Edson Castillo, and, along with the earlier acquisition of Siphesihle Ndlovu, indicates that Chiefs are actively restructuring their midfield.

The Soweto giants believe Maboe’s experience will be valuable, especially as they compete in the CAF Confederation Cup this season. His versatility is also a key asset, as he can play in various positions, including attacking midfield, winger, and even right-back.

Maboe made his name at Maritzburg United (Durban City FC) before moving to Sundowns in the 2017/18 season. During his time with the Brazilians, he lifted an impressive nine major trophies, including five league titles, and made 183 appearances, scoring 20 goals and providing 23 assists.
