In a significant move confirmed Friday afternoon, Kaizer Chiefs announced they have mutually and amicably parted ways with head coach Nasreddine Nabi, ending the Tunisian mentor’s tenure with the club midway through the 2025/26 season.
Nabi, who notably broke Amakhosi’s decade-long trophy drought by winning the Nedbank Cup last season, had recently been under club suspension following concerns raised about the validity of his coaching badges.
Despite widespread speculation regarding a permanent replacement, the Soweto giants confirmed that the current assistant coaches, Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze, will take charge of the first team for the remainder of the current campaign.
The split was imminent. While earlier reports linked the coach’s absence to a personal matter involving his wife in Tunisia, Friday’s confirmation centred on a “mutual agreement” following “constructive engagements.”
Nabi had initially guided Chiefs to a stellar start to the 2025/26 campaign, securing four wins and five clean sheets in their first five fixtures, only for the momentum to stall with a recent 3-1 loss to Sekhukhune United.
The club stated that placing Youssef and Kaze in charge aims to “ensure continuity and stability” as Chiefs face upcoming domestic and continental fixtures while the search for a long-term head coach continues.
“The Parties recognise the importance of this decision being communicated in respectful and positive terms, reflecting the mutual regard maintained throughout their employment relationship.
“Kaizer Chiefs FC acknowledges and thanks Coach Nabi for his contribution during his tenure with the Club and extends best wishes for his continued success in future endeavours.
“Coach Nabi, in turn, conveys his appreciation to Kaizer Chiefs FC, its leadership, staff, players, and supporters for their commitment and support during his time at the Club.”
“The Club can confirm that Coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze will lead the technical team for the remainder of the 2025/26 season.
“Their leadership will ensure continuity and stability as the Club prepares for upcoming fixtures domestically and on the continent.
“The Club remains committed to its ambitions and thanks Amakhosi supporters for their continued loyalty, patience and support.”
