Kaizer Chiefs confirm seventh signing for new season

Kaizer Chiefs have completed their seventh signing of the season, announcing the arrival of former Cape Town Spurs captain Asanele Velebayi on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old put pen to paper on a long-term contract at the Soweto giants after being on their radar since last season.

The signing comes after the PSL’s Dispute Resolution Chamber (DRC) officially declared Velebayi a free agent on Monday, concluding a case with his former club CT Spurs.

Velebayi also leaves CT Spurs following their relegation to the ABC Motsepe Foundation, a second-tier league, after a dismal run last season.

The young attacker joins a list of new arrivals at Naturena that includes Siphesihle Ndlovu, Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane, and Paseka Mako.

“Asanele Velebayi has officially joined Kaizer Chiefs. The Cape Town-born winger has signed a long-term contract, fulfilling his lifelong dream of wearing the Gold & Black colours of Amakhosi,” reads the club statement.

Meanwhile, Chiefs’ sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr described Velebayi as a good fit and a good signing as the club aims to reclaim its former glory this season.

“We are happy to finally have Asanele with us,” said Kaizer Motaung Jr. “He is a great addition, and we believe he will add significant value because he is a perfect fit for our game model and the culture we have here at the Club.”
