Kaizer Chiefs cruise to fourth straight win over TS Galaxy

Kaizer Chiefs continued their rich vein of form on Sunday afternoon, securing a clinical 2-0 victory against TS Galaxy at FNB Stadium afternoon.

The result marks a fourth consecutive win for the Amakhosi, further solidifying their third-place standing in the Betway Premiership.

Goals from Flávio Silva and Glody (Makabi) Lilepo on either side of a weather-induced delay proved enough to down a depleted Rockets side.

The home side was boosted by the return of captain and first-choice goalkeeper Brandon Petersen, who made his first appearance since early March. Conversely, TS Galaxy arrived in Johannesburg severely handicapped by suspensions to key figures Mlungisi Mbunjana, Junior Zindoga, and Lentswe Motaung.

Chiefs dominated the opening exchanges, though they were initially wasteful in front of goal. Flávio Silva missed a clear-cut chance in the 21st minute when he was denied by a last-ditch challenge from Igor Salatiel Silva. However, Silva made amends in the 35th minute, rising to meet an inch-perfect cross from Mduduzi Shabalala to head the ball into the bottom corner.

Weather and Technical Delays

The second half began with TS Galaxy showing more intent, nearly equalizing through Seluleko Mahlambi just two minutes after the restart. However, the momentum of the game was abruptly halted in the 65th minute.

A combination of floodlight failure and nearby lightning strikes forced referee Moreki Lekwape to temporarily suspend the match for the safety of the players. After a lengthy delay, the technical issues were resolved, and the players returned to the pitch to complete the final 25 minutes.

Any hopes of a Galaxy comeback were extinguished in the 74th minute. Glody Lilepo capitalized on a fast break, carrying the ball from his own half and showcasing individual brilliance to beat both a Galaxy defender and goalkeeper Ira Tapé with a powerful long-range strike.

Chiefs managed the closing stages with professional ease, though the game ended on a slightly somber note as Bradley Cross required medical attention for an injury in stoppage time.

The victory moves Kaizer Chiefs to 42 points from 22 games. While they remain 13 points behind second-placed leaders Orlando Pirates, the Amakhosi hold two games in hand and are firmly in the race for a continental football spot. TS Galaxy remains 12th, left to rue missed opportunities and a thin squad.
