Kaizer Chiefs secured a 1-0 away victory against a stubborn Golden Arrows side, with a solitary strike from Flavio Silva proving to be the difference at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban on Saturday evening.
In a Betway Premiership match that saw Chiefs dominate possession, the Soweto giants found themselves up against a well-drilled Arrows defence led by captain Gladwin Shitolo.
Chiefs started on the front foot, looking to break down their opponents, but the first half ended in a goalless stalemate.
The second half began in a similar fashion, with Chiefs controlling the ball but struggling to find a breakthrough. Arrows, meanwhile, grew into the game and created a few chances of their own, but both sides failed to find the back of the net.
As the clock wound down, it was Flavio Silva who seized the moment. The striker, a new arrival at the club, received a perfectly-weighted pass from Gaston Sirino just outside the box, following a clever move initiated by Mfundo Vilakazi. Silva went on to calmly slot the ball home in the 70th minute, securing all three points for Chiefs.
This was Silva’s first goal for Chiefs, coming on his debut in the South African top-flight.
The victory sees Amakhosi continue their strong start to the season, while Arrows will be disappointed to have lost despite their resilient defensive performance.
In addition, the win marked Chiefs’ fifth consecutive clean sheet this season, as they remain the only team in the league yet to concede a goal. Goalkeeper Brandon Petersen once again played a pivotal role, securing another shutout.
