Kaizer Chiefs have officially named the 22-man delegation heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for their high-stakes CAF Confederation Cup Second Preliminary Round first-leg clash against AS Simba.

The Soweto giants face the Congolese side this Saturday, October 18, at the formidable TP Mazembe Stadium in Lubumbashi, with kickoff set for 15:00. This tie marks a critical hurdle for Amakhosi, who squeezed past Angolan club Kabuscorp SCP in the previous round on penalties (5-4) after a 1-1 aggregate scoreline.

Key Returns Boost Chiefs’ Continental Ambitions

The squad announced by Chiefs shows significant strength and depth, highlighted by the inclusion of several key players making a welcome return.

Mfundo Vilakazi is back in the fold after representing Amajita at the Under-20 FIFA World Cup in Chile, offering a creative spark in midfield.

Seasoned player Lebohang Maboe has also recovered from injury and travelled with the team, providing valuable experience.

Crucially, new signing Khanyisa Mayo has been successfully registered and cleared for continental competition, having missed the tense first-round fixtures against Kabuscorp. His presence alongside proven goal-scorers like Ashley du Preez and Pule Mmodi will be vital for grabbing an all-important away goal.

This trip to the DRC marks Chiefs’ second CAF inter-club meeting with a Congolese side in recent memory, following their aggregate loss to AS Vita in the 2014 CAF Champions League.

Kaizer Chiefs Travelling Squad Roster

The full contingent flying to Lubumbashi is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Brandon Petersen, Bruce Bvuma, Fiacre Ntwari.

Defenders: Zitha Kwinika, Aden McCarthy, Inacio Miguel, Reeve Frosler, Bradley Cross, Dillan Solomons.

Midfielders: Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Thabo Cele, Mfundo Vilakazi, Mduduzi Shabalala, Gaston Sirino.

Forwards: Glody Lilepo, Pule Mmodi, Ashley du Preez, Khanyisa Mayo, Wandile Duba.

The return leg is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, where Amakhosi will host AS Simba at the Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto. This will be the first time in over a decade that the Glamour Boys use Dobsonville for a CAF match, as they aim to leverage home advantage and seal their passage into the competition’s lucrative group stages.
