Kaizer Chiefs have announced their first acquisition for the upcoming 2025/26 Betway Premiership season: highly-rated left-back Nkanyiso Shinga.

The arrival of Shinga marks the initial step in what promises to be a busy transfer period for the Soweto giants. More new signings are anticipated to be unveiled before the team departs for their pre-season tour in the Netherlands.

Amakhosi recently returned from their off-season break, eager to prepare for the highly anticipated new campaign. The club has been actively strengthening its squad, aiming to build a more competitive team after a challenging previous season.

Despite a disappointing ninth-place finish in the league with 32 points from 22 matches, which saw them miss out on a top-eight spot, Chiefs ended their decade-long trophy drought by clinching the 2025 Nedbank Cup.

Building on their Nedbank Cup success, Chiefs moved swiftly to secure Nkanyiso Shinga. The 25-year-old wing-back joins from Portuguese side FC Alverca, a club with partial ownership by Real Madrid star Vinicius Jr. Shinga made 22 appearances for Alverca, showcasing his talent on the European stage.

Shinga's signing bolsters the left-back position following the departure of Mozambican international Edmilson Dove. The club officially announced his arrival on Tuesday, confirming that the KwaZulu-Natal academy product will wear the jersey number 74.

A statement from Amakhosi reads: "We are pleased to announce the signing of 25-year-old Nkanyiso Shinga. The talented left-back is a versatile operator who can also play in midfield and attack. He will don jersey 74. Welcome to the Family."

In addition to Shinga, the Soweto outfit has also reportedly signed Paseka Mako, Ethan Chislett, Thabiso Monyane, and Flavio Silva, with official announcements for these players expected imminently.
