Kaizer Chiefs’ underwhelming form in South Africa’s Betway Premiership continued on Wednesday with a 0-0 draw against visiting Siwelele at the FNB Stadium.
AmaKhosi continue to labor in all competitions, having now failed to win in their last four league matches following Wednesday’s result.
It could have been worse against a scrappy Siwelele side, who had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 16th minute but Chiefs goalkeeper Brandon Petersen came up with an excellent save to deny Chibuike Ohizu. The hosts’ best opportunity came close to halftime when Reeve Frosler’s crashing long range strike just went over the Siwelele goal.
AmaKhosi showed more promise in the second half but forgot to bring their shooting boots out of the interval. Halftime substitute Makabi Lilepo curled his shot over the bar soon after Zitha Kwinika missed a guilt-edged opportunity from less than five yards out after the ball fell kindly.
But overall it was an uninspired effort from Chiefs, who continue to struggle in all competitions. Outside of a second leg 1-0 victory over Angola’s Kabuscorp in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifying stages, they have not won a match since August 30 when they won 1-0 at Golden Arrows.
Elsewhere, rivals Orlando Pirates edged Polokwane City 1-0 while Stellenbosch defeated Arrows 4-3 in a shootout. Action will resume next weekend at the end of the month.
