South African heavyweights Kaizer Chiefs have intensified their interest in Uganda Cranes forward Steven Dese Mukwala, who currently plays for Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
According to reputable African football journalist Micky Jnr, Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi travelled to Tanzania last week to watch Mukwala in action as Simba SC faced Singida Black Stars in Dar es Salaam.
Nabi’s assistant, Cedric Kaze, and the club’s head of scouting and recruitment, Thembela Maliwa, reportedly held a discreet meeting with Mukwala’s representative to explore the possibility of a move.
This development comes hot on the heels of Moroccan outfit RS Berkane expressing interest in the former Vipers SC striker following their CAF Confederation Cup final clash with Simba SC in Zanzibar. RS Berkane are understood to be preparing a $300,000 offer for Mukwala’s services ahead of the new season.
Despite the growing attention, Simba SC President Mohammed Dewji has reportedly instructed club officials to delay any transfer talks until the conclusion of the Tanzania Premier League campaign, which still has three matches remaining.
Mukwala, who joined Simba SC from Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko in 2023, has been in scintillating form — scoring 12 goals and providing three assists in just 1,049 league minutes. His consistent performances earned him back-to-back Player of the Month accolades for April and May.
