Kaizer Chiefs will finish outside top eight like last season – predicts Junior Khanye

Former Kaizer Chiefs winger Junior Khanye has ruled out the possibility of the South African club finishing among the top eight in the current Betway Premiership.

Amakhosi have registered mixed outings this season that has seen them remain winless from the last four league matches. Since edging out Magesi FC 1-0 on 4 March, they have suffered two defeats and two draws.

They drew 0-0 against Cape Town City, lost 0-2 to Richards Bay, lost 1-2 to Golden Arrows before their recent 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy, in a game they had taken the lead before being pegged back.

According to Khanye, they will face a difficult task to end the season above the top eight bracket. Chiefs are currently lying eighth on the 16-team league table with 30 points from 23 matches.

“I have said this before, Top 8, No!” explained Khanye on IDiski TV as quoted by idiskitimes. “Remember Chippa United have two games in hand and are behind them. I know that games in hand don’t mean you have the points already. And below that there’s a team that has games in hand and if those teams win the games in hand. Also Kaizer Chiefs need to win their games and not focus on other teams they have to do the job themselves.”

Anaylsing their draw against Galaxy, Khanye said: “Coming to this game, Kaizer Chiefs played very well in the first half I need to be honest. Both teams played at high intensity I think it was a good game. Kaizer Chiefs came to the game in the first half and were exciting to watch in the half and could have been better with at least two or three more goals. They should have wrapped it up in the first half but there were players from Chiefs in the half that didn’t come to the party.

Their attack wasn’t really balanced. Glody Lilepo and Pule Mmodi were off and [Wandile] Duba even though he scored he played in patches in the first half. I can only single out [Gaston] Sirino because every time he got the ball he looked threatening.”

Last season, Chiefs finished 10th on the log with 36 points from 30 matches.
