Kaizer Chiefs sporting director Kaizer Motaung Jr has set the record straight regarding the rumours that head coach Nasreddine Nabi will depart Amakhosi at the end of the season.
Fresh off leading Chiefs to their first trophy in almost a decade with a resounding 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Orlando Pirates in the 2025 Nedbank Cup final this past Saturday at Moses Mabhida Stadium, speculation has been rife about the future of Tunisian tactician Nasreddine Nabi.
Having taken the coaching reins at the start of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, Nabi delivered the coveted Nedbank Cup in his debut campaign.
However, this triumph comes against a backdrop of a poor run of form in the league with the Soweto giants currently languishing in the bottom half of the league standings.
Nabi's men are positioned ninth on the log with 30 points from 26 matches, the Naturena-based side will need to secure maximum points from their final two fixtures to avoid this undesirable outcome.
The Soweto giants face the very real prospect of finishing outside the top eight for the second consecutive year.
Just a day, after Amakhosi celebrated their Nedbank Cup triumph in Durban, a report in the Sunday Times, claimed that the former Young Africans coach will be shown the exit door by the club at the end of the season.
In an interview on 5FM this Monday, Chiefs sporting director Motaung Jr revealed the club's intention to build on their recent Nedbank Cup victory.
When questioned about Nabi's future at Chiefs, Motaung Jr clarified, "The coach still has another season remaining on his contract with us.”
"At the same time, after every season, we sit down and do a review. We know that the results in the league have been inconsistent.
"We've just been able to achieve a milestone, winning a trophy, so with everything else, we're moving forward and planning the way forward.
"So we want to saviour this moment moving forward, galvanise the support from the whole team, the players, the technical team, and staff for the mission ahead. So we're just planning for the future."
