Senegal captain Kalidou Koulibaly has extended his stay with Saudi Pro League side, Al Hilal for another year.

It had been rumored for a few weeks regarding the extension of Koulibaly’s deal and the club has now confirmed the news with the 2025 AFCON winner deciding to stay for another year with Al-Hilal.

While his contract with Al-Hilal was set to expire in June 2026, the former Chelsea central defender and Teranga Lions captain has extended his deal for another year.

He is now tied to the club until June 2027 with Al Hilal announcing the deal on their social media platforms.

Koulibaly won 2025 AFCON title with Senegal

“Koulibaly has delivered exceptional performances with the team, contributing alongside his teammates to Al-Hilal’s five titles: the King’s Cup, the Saudi Pro League, two Saudi Super Cups, and the Riyadh Cup.

” Furthermore, Koulibaly played a key role in Al-Hilal’s remarkable results during their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, when the team reached the quarter-finals of the tournament,” the Saudi club explained in a statement on its website.

Koulibaly played five matches at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as Senegal defeated hosts Morocco 1-0 to lift their second AFCON title.

He has played ten matches for Al Hilal with no goals in the Saudi Pro League as Al Hilal sit top of the league table with 50 points, one above Al Nassr where his teammate Sadio Mane plays. Koulibaly has 102 caps and two goals for Senegal.

The ebony black defender previously played for Metz, Genk, Napoli and Chelsea before joining Al Hilal for a deal worth up to €23 million in 2023.
