The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced the introduction of a new split-league format, set to be piloted with the 18 Kampala Regional Football Association 3rd Division clubs during the 2025/26 season.
The decision follows a mutual agreement between the FUFA Executive Committee and representatives of the participating clubs, marking a significant step towards enhancing competition and professional organization at the regional level.
To support the implementation, FUFA will inject over UGX 800 million into the league. The funding will cater for prize money, locker-room bonuses, man-of-the-match awards, referees’ payments, club financial support, and general operational expenses.
The overall winner of the league is set to walk away with a cash prize of up to UGX 20 million.
According to FUFA, the new format aims to improve competitiveness, encourage club development, and serve as a model for possible rollout in other regional leagues across the country in the near future.
