RB Salzburg forward Karim Konaté continued his strong return from long-term injury on Sunday with a brace in his club’s 5-1 thrashing of LASK in the Austrian Bundesliga.
The ASEC Mimosas youth product now has five goals in his last five matches across all competitions, with his latest performance helping to boost Salzburg back into top spot on the Bundesliga table.
A strong start put the visitors on the front foot, with Kerim Alajbegović giving the league leaders the advantage with a powerful strike from distance in the 6th minute.
It was 2-0 before ten minutes had elapsed after Konaté received the ball while isolated on the left wing. After producing some slick dribble moves to find space, the Ivorian cut inside to blast his shot past LASK goalkeeper Lukas Jungwirth at his near post.
TOOOOOOOOR!! Karim mit dem nächsten Treffer nach überragendem Dribbling im Sechzehner! 💪🤩

The hosts got themselves back into the match with a goal in the 18th minute but it became a long day for LASK. Before halftime arrived, Alajbegović set up Sota Kitano to make it 3-1 in favor of the visitors.
Konaté completed his brace shortly after the hour mark. Taking advantage of poor marking, the striker beat everybody to the near post for a flick header from Frans Kratzig’s corner kick and there was no more doubt about the result.
Later on, the forward was denied a hat-trick after VAR declared Konaté offsides but the visitors added one more goal in second half stoppage time.
Konaté now has 5 goals in 9 matches since returning from injury in late November. After using substitute appearances late last year to gain his first minutes, the extended winter break over the new year allowed the striker to gain match fitness before Salzburg returned to competitive action.
The club is ahead of reigning champions Sturm Graz by two points through twenty rounds. Next Sunday, they will host TSV Hartberg.
