Despite registering a victory, Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito has sounded the alarm, demanding a higher level of commitment and performance from his players, stating they “must back up” their recent result.
Kotoko produced a scrappy performance but managed to go past Young Apostles by 2-1 in their week six outstanding Ghana Premier League fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on Wednesday.
The Porcupine Warriors shot themselves ahead in the 52nd minute from the boot of Hubert Gyau, but the visitors pumped up and quickly levelled up a minute after going down.
A late, yet controversial penalty scored by captain and Congolese import, Samba O’nei,l gave Kotoko three points, moving them into fourth on 19 points without a loss in the current campaign.
Kotoko head coach Karim Zito expressed worry about the team’s output but was happy about the win.
“When you go to the field, it is the ability and capability of the players. I will tell you that when the goalkeeper moves to the left side, try right.
“I think they should back up because this is what happened on the field, and I talked about it several times, but at the end of the day, I am happy that we have won,” Karim Zito said after the game.
Kotoko’s last outstanding game is against Basake Holy Stars, a week three fixture that was delayed due to Kotoko’s involvement in the CAF Confederation Cup.
