The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League title race has reached an elastic limit where clubs gunning for the trophy must record consistent victories.
There is a four horse race in the top half of the table where leaders Nations FC have collected 54 points with Gold Stars and Heart of Lions strongly behind them on 53 points from 30 league matches.
Asante Kotoko, who are the record Ghana Premier League title holders with 25 trophies follow in fourth with 51 points with the dream to claim another feat looking quite arduous.
Interim head coach of Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has disclosed that his team wants to prioritize winning this season’s MTN FA Cup ahead of the Ghana Premier League title.
The Reds are in the semi-final of the MTN FA Cup where they will face former premier league champions Berekum Chelsea on Saturday, May 11 at the Tarkwa TnA Park.
Speaking to journalists after Asante Kotoko drew goalless with Hearts of Oak on Sunday, Coach Abdul Karim Zito said his team will focus more on winning the MTN FA Cup.
“When you look at the two sides of the coin, the FA Cup and the league, I think, if I’m not going to be selfish, we have to push more for the FA Cup. So we are going to push more for the FA Cup than the league. I have to be honest with you,” coach Zito said.
Asante Kotoko have won the Ghana FA Cup nine times, three less than record holders and their sworn rivals, Hearts of Oak.
