“Karim Zito needs time to shape Asante Kotoko” – Michael Akuffo

Former Asante Kotoko midfielder, Michael Akuffo has called for patience for the club’s head coach, Karim Zito ahead of next season’s domestic and continental campaign.

Akuffo, who won three consecutive league titles with the Porcupine Warriors, made the call following Kotoko’s poor performance in the just ended GHALCA Top Four where they failed to earn a point in three matches.

Prior to the horrible Top Four output, the record Ghana Premier League holders had decorated their trophy cabinet with three trophies, FA Cup, the President’s Cup and the Toyota Cup under the guidance of coach Zito who replaced Prosper Narteh Ogum.

In an interview with Accra-based Radio Gold, Michael Akuffo urged the club’s followers to exercise patience ahead of next season.

“It’s a big plus for the team when you look at what [Karim] Zito did when Dreams fc played in the CAF Confederation Cup and for a split of a second when they mentioned his name I see anything bad about it because I knew him from my infancy,” Akuffo told Radio Gold.

“So giving the job to him as Kotoko coach will help the team because it will transition them into something different because when you look at last season, from the beginning to the latter part, they were struggling but when he came he was able to change some dynamics about the team and at the end of the day they were able to win laurels.”Akuffo added.

Asante Kotoko will next clash with league winners, Gold Stars in the Champion-of-Champions at the Duns Park on Sunday August 31 before turning attention to the Ghana Premier League and the CAF Confederation Cup where they are paired against Nigeria’s Kwara United for the preliminary round.
