Kasim Nuhu: Experienced defender ready to start at KuPs

Finnish top flight club Kuopion Palloseura (KuPS) have announced the signing of experienced Ghana defender Kasim Nuhu Adams.

The 30-year-old completed a move to the Veikkausliiga side after signing a two-year contract with the club as a free agent.

Adams brings a rich European experience to the eight time Finnish champions having previously played in the Swiss Super League, the German Bundesliga and the Spanish league.

He won the Swiss Super League with Young Boys in the 2017-18 season plus featuring in 50 games for FC Basel, scoring a total of three goals.

Kasim Nuhu has 11 caps for Ghana

Adams, who started his senior career at Ghana’s Medeama, moved to Spain with Leganes and Real Mallorca before transferring to Young Boys on a permanent deal after an initial loan move.

His performance caught the eyes of Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim who signed him in 2018. He was however limited to a few game time forcing two loan spells to Fortuna Düsseldorf and FC Basel.

He last played for Swiss outfit Servette before joining KuPs as a free agent this year.

Speaking after completing the move, the Ghanaian defender expressed delight at joining the Finnish club and praised the reception he received from the team.

“The reception was really good. The team welcomed me nicely, and the coaching staff made sure that everything was in order right from the start,” Adams said.

“The first few practices were really good for me, and I enjoyed them a lot. The development looks good, and I’m looking forward to working with the team.

‘Kasim is a very suitable stopper for us’

“Of course, I had heard about Finland, and I also knew about Kuopio Palloseura. The club regularly participates in European competitions, so I was naturally aware of it.”

KuPS sporting director Sixten Bostrom believes the signing will strengthen the club’s defensive options.

“Kasim is a very suitable stopper for us in terms of ball possession. He can open the game with quality, both with short and longer passes.

“In addition, he brings physicality and strong aerial ability to our defence in both penalty areas. As an experienced player, he will also provide leadership and confidence to our backline.”

The 11 time capped Ghana centre-back will be hoping to hit the ground running as KuPS prepare for the upcoming Veikkausliiga campaign.
