Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has explained why he believes they are in a better place than last season, offering a candid take on the narrative surrounding this campaign.
The Soweto giants have so far garnered four wins and four draws in the 2025/26 season. They have only lost once in the nine games they played, with 16 points on their tally.
As it stands, they sit in fourth position on the Betway Premiership table, trailing behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns by five points. Simply put, Kaze can sense that the Soweto giants will have a good season as he sees a marked improvement.
At this point in the 2023/24 season, they had three wins, two draws, and four defeats, and they ended the season in tenth position with 36 points from 30 matches.
In the 2024/25 season, they won three times after nine matches, with three draws and three defeats. They went on to end the season in ninth position, with 32 points from 28 matches. However, Kaze believes the picture will only become clearer deeper into the season.
“I’m going to cite some facts to show you how this team is in a better and very good place. Last season, after nine games, we had 11 points and three defeats. Today, after nine games, we have five points more than last season. Only one defeat in the league, I’m just saying about the league,” Kaze said.
“Another thing, we are in the Confederation Cup. We went through the first round. We drew the first leg of the second round. I believe that despite all the noise around, there is no need to panic. Maybe people are by nature pessimistic. I would say that this team is in a better place than in the last two or three seasons at this point in the season.”
Kaze weighed in on their ongoing CAF Confederation Cup campaign, where he believes they will prove doubters wrong. They are set to host AS Simba at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday in the second leg of the second preliminary round.
This match will decide whether or not Chiefs make the group stage of a CAF competition for the first time since the 2020/21 campaign. The first leg ended 0-0.
“We know that on Sunday, everyone knows what they have to do. We are pretty sure that we are going to do everything to go through, and we will make it happen.
“I believe that in the life of a group, like right now with our team and our current squad, everyone knows the history.
“We have never been in a group stage of a Confederation with the new format. First, it could be a history for the club, and everyone understands that. It’s very important because it can add more experience to players,” he added.
