Ssenyondo, who took charge of the Kasasiro Boys in preseason after previous stints with Kitara, UPDF, Mbarara City, and Synergy, acknowledges the pressure that comes with managing a club of KCCA’s stature.

“Any coach would love time, but football rarely gives you that luxury,” he said. “At a club like KCCA, you have to win instantly. The club has gone seasons without a trophy. Whether given time or not, we must work things out quickly, and it must start with this Super Eight game.”

The Kasasiro Boys have recruited heavily to back their ambitions, bringing in seven new faces: striker Ivan Ahimbisibwe, full-back Herbert Achai, defender Enock Walusimbi, youngster Lazaro Bwambale, winger Alpha Ssali, versatile midfielder Rogers Mugisha, and goalkeeper Charles Lukwago, who returns to Lugogo as the club’s last league-winning captain.

Ssenyondo believes this mix of youth and experience gives KCCA the edge to compete for trophies again. “We knew what we wanted for the squad this season,” he explained. “Walusimbi has already lifted the league with Express, while Lukwago knows what it takes to win it here at KCCA. It’s an exciting season ahead with hungry young players and experienced ones who have done it before.”

However, preparations have not been without challenges. Preseason was disrupted by several players missing due to CHAN and World Cup qualifiers, including Achai, Gavin Kizito, and Joel Sserunjogi. Despite that, the coach insists his squad is ready.

“We must appreciate that we haven’t had the whole squad together, but that shouldn’t be an excuse because those players also had valuable game time,” he said. “Looking at preseason altogether, this is our seventh week—it’s just positives, and we are ready for the new season as we enter the final days of preparations.”

Ssenyondo’s sights are firmly set on ending KCCA’s silverware drought and stamping his authority as the man to lead the Kasasiro Boys back to the summit of Ugandan football.
